About the Project
Chesterfield, Missouri
CBB met with the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show organizers, law enforcement, fire, EMS and traffic control operators to determine the full scope of signal timing needs during this year’s 2022 Air Show & STEM Expo in Chesterfield. Three major interstate ingress and egress points were identified. Similarly, three major ingress and egress points were identified for the airfield itself. Two separate signal timing plans were developed for the weekend: one for inbound traffic and one for outbound traffic. The plans were designed to move as much traffic into and out of the event as possible while still maintaining acceptable flow for non-event/local area traffic. Our team worked with the traffic control company to determine which intersections would benefit from closing/restricting certain movements. On the days of the event, CBB’s staff worked with St. Louis County and local law enforcement to adjust signal timing based on fluctuating demand throughout the day. CBB’s plans were able to safely ingress and egress nearly 50,000 patrons to the event throughout the weekend.
