About the Project

Madison, Illinois

CBB was proud to be a part of the team for race day parking, traffic management, and field support at the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series Enjoy Illinois 300 Race, the largest-event ever at the track.  CBB partnered and worked with WWT Raceway staff, Illinois State Police, City of Madison Police Department, IDOT District 8, Warning Lites, and M&M Parking for this special event.  CBB collected base file information for multiple potential parking areas, marked useable areas with assistance from the owner, and identified total stall yields for each area.  Based on total parking stall counts, the owner designated primary, secondary and overflow areas for parking up to 17,500 passenger vehicles and RV’s.  Considerations included location and number of accessible parking needed which historically exceeds typical ADA minimums, allowance for massive numbers of pedestrians walking to and from their parked vehicles to the track, and routes for shuttles to service the remote parking and camping areas.  CBB prepared two traffic management plans for the events, one for inbound traffic to load the parking areas and one for outbound to unload. Vehicle and pedestrian safety were a primary goal. A written plan was prepared and shared with the partnering agencies which included temporary signage, traffic control cones, temporary CMS, law enforcement stations, temporary light locations, detour routes, and lane closures. On race day, a CBB principal observed traffic flows to trouble-shoot problem areas, and the MOT team coordinated the pre-determined switchovers and made changes to the plan in real time, as needed.
